Why choose 0.6mm corrugated sheet?

Sheet thickness is one of the most important considerations in construction - yet many people overlook it. In most Hungarian builders' merchants and webshops, 0.4-0.5mm sheets are the most common, and they are usually perfectly adequate for family-house roofing and fence building. But there are situations where the thicker, 0.6mm corrugated sheet is a much better choice - and in the long run it may even save you money.

What's different about the 0.6mm sheet?

The difference is not just a tenth of a millimetre of steel. The steel core of the 0.6mm sheet is about 20-33% thicker than the usual 0.45-0.5mm sheets. This extra thickness shows directly in the load-bearing capacity: the sheet bends less under load, resists wind pressure, snow load and occasional mechanical impact better. After a stronger hailstorm or winter snow build-up, the thicker sheet is more likely to remain intact than its thinner counterpart.

There is also a difference in lifespan. The thicker steel core corrodes more slowly - there is simply more material to wear through. While a quality 0.45mm sheet serves 20+ years, the 0.6mm version can last 25 years or more under the same conditions. This is especially important for buildings planned for decades, where re-roofing would mean serious cost and disruption.

What can it do that the 0.4 or 0.5mm cannot?

The most striking difference is stiffness. Grab the edge of a 0.4mm and a 0.6mm sheet and you feel it instantly: the thicker sheet is much harder to bend. In practice this means less deformation during installation, less creasing during transport, and a more stable installed surface.

Sound damping is also better: with thicker steel, the rattling of raindrops and hail is less audible inside the building. This is not the equivalent of sound insulation, but it is a noticeable difference - especially on metal roof structures, where noise is a frequent complaint anyway.

Last but not least: the thicker sheet holds screws better. At fixing points the 0.6mm steel gives stronger grip, so in wind it's less likely that the sheet will "work itself" out of the fixing. In the long run this means less maintenance and fewer repairs.

In summary: 0.6mm corrugated sheet isn't for everyone - but for those who need it, it's well worth it. If building size, site conditions or simply long-term peace of mind justify it, the few hundred Ft extra per square metre is one of the best investments you can make during construction.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the 0.6mm sheet cheaper?

The standard 0.6mm list price is 3 180 Ft/m². We offer it at a discounted 2 640 Ft/m² through our webshop because we buy the coil in larger batches.

Which colour is available?

The 0.6mm sheet depends on current stock - you can't pick a colour, we ship whatever is available. We'll confirm the exact colour when you order.

How much thicker than the standard?

The standard T18 sheet is 0.45-0.5mm thick; this one is 0.6mm. That is ~20-33% thicker steel core, which significantly increases load capacity and lifespan.

What is the 0.6mm recommended for?

Industrial roofing, halls, roofs with larger spans, snowy regions, and anywhere the standard thickness is not enough for the load.

Are screws included?

Screws can be ordered separately - when adding to the cart we offer matching EPDM colour-matched screws. 250 pcs/box, enough for ~25 m².

How long does production take?

The 0.6mm sheet is also produced within 48 hours after ordering, cut to your exact size.
