Chocolate brown sheet - the colour that always looks right

Chocolate brown is the colour you rarely think of first - and then you see it on someone's house and you immediately understand why they chose it. It does not shout, it does not show off. It simply sits in its place: warm, natural, and fits into the landscape as if it had always been there.

More and more customers choose it here, too. People do not learn about it from advertising - their neighbour recommends it because they are happy with it. Anyone who likes wood, stone and natural materials, and wants the same warmth on the roof, sooner or later arrives at chocolate brown.

Chocolate brown is right for you if:

  • You have a timber house, or you are planning a wood-clad façade
  • You are building near a forest, in the hills or in the countryside, where the building has to blend into its surroundings
  • You want a house that radiates a natural, warm atmosphere
  • You are building a cellar, guesthouse or lodging where a traditional look matters
  • You want a colour that will still look the same twenty years from now

Why are more and more people choosing brown?

In recent years everybody has been putting up anthracite and black - but as more and more houses turned grey, many started looking for something else. Something equally elegant, but warmer and more natural. Chocolate brown gives exactly that.

One thing we have noticed: whoever chooses brown is almost always happy with the result. They do not decide by trend but deliberately - and they do not regret it afterwards.

What is worth knowing about the chocolate brown sheet?

How much does it heat up in the sun?

It is a dark colour, so it heats up - that is natural. In summer the surface sits around 63-72 °C, similar to anthracite but considerably less than black. With proper ventilation this causes no problem at all.

Does it not fade? - This is brown's great strength

Here is chocolate brown's hidden advantage: the pigment in it is extremely resistant to sunlight. The same type that makes anthracite so durable. In practice you cannot see any fading with the naked eye even after 15-20 years.

If you are after a durable, warm colour that stays beautiful for decades, chocolate brown is a much better choice than any red shade - even if they look similar at first glance.

Corrosion protection

The brown sheet has exactly the same protection against rust as any other colour. The shade does not affect service life.

What does chocolate brown go with?

Brown roof + timber façade - the perfect pair

The best companion for the chocolate brown sheet is natural wood. Timber cladding, beam-gable, wooden front door, terrace - the brown roof reinforces the warmth of the wood rather than competing with it. This combination always works and never goes out of fashion.

Brown roof + white wall - a warm contrast

A warmer, friendlier version of the anthracite-and-white pairing. The effect is completely different: where anthracite-and-white is modern and cool, brown-and-white is homely and intimate. It suits pitched-roof country houses especially well.

Brown roof + off-white wall - beautiful harmony

One of the loveliest combinations in our whole range. Both colours are warm, and they reinforce each other. Particularly attractive with stone and rendered surfaces.

Brown roof + green elements - natural balance

Like tree trunk and canopy in a forest - natural neighbours. An obvious choice on a forest-edge plot or for agricultural buildings. The building literally dissolves into its surroundings.

Accessories - everything is available in brown

Chocolate brown is a base colour at the window factories too: most uPVC windows are available in a brown-foiled version. Gutter, flashing, bargeboard, roofing screw - all are available in this colour. You do not need to compromise.

Will the local rules allow it?

Chocolate brown is one of the least restricted roof colours in Hungary. It resembles the aged form of traditional clay tile and the colour of old wood-shingle roofs, so most local building codes accept it without issue - even in places where anthracite or black are not allowed.

Good to know: If you want a dark roof colour but anthracite or black is ruled out by the local regulations, chocolate brown gives you the same elegant dark appearance - but the rules count it as a traditional roof colour.

What to watch for during installation

Thermal expansion - as with anthracite

In summer the surface can reach 72 °C. On a 6-metre sheet that means around 5-6 mm of expansion. Above 5 metres use oval fixing holes and do not overtighten the screws.

Maintenance - virtually none

Neither scratches nor dust show up. Dirt blends into the warm, dark base and rain keeps it clean. If you want a low-maintenance colour, this is the best choice.

How does the chocolate brown sheet age?

Chocolate brown is one of - if not the - best-ageing colours in the whole range. Durable pigment and the naturally "forgiving" character of a warm brown tone: any minimal change only makes it look better.

First 10 years

The colour stays practically unchanged. It looks the way it did on day one.

10-15 years

Slight matting, which gives more of a patinated feel - like a nicely aged timber surface. Many owners think this is actually prettier than the original.

15-20 years

Brown stays brown - it does not go grey, green or purple. If you ever need to replace a sheet, the new one blends in easily with the old.

Touch-up paint for this colour is available in every specialist shop, and the repaired area blends well with the original coating.
