Red - for those not afraid to stand out
RAL 3011 red is not the usual tile colour. It is a deeper, richer shade - somewhere between burgundy and rust. Whoever chooses this colour does not want to blend into the crowd. It is more decisive, stronger, and you can tell from a distance that someone knew what they wanted.
It is no accident that more and more people are asking for it. Everyone in the area puts up tile red - but you are not everyone. RAL 3011 is not flashy, not loud - but clearly different. Like a good wine: deep, characterful, and it stays in the memory.
Who do we recommend it to?
- You want a red that is a notch stronger and deeper than the usual tile colour
- You have a brick-fronted house, and you want to reinforce the same warm mood on the roof
- You are building in wine country or on a vineyard slope, where red is a natural choice
- You are looking for a characterful but not extreme colour for a garage, workshop or warehouse - a red roof immediately sets the building apart from the sea of grey warehouses
Red or tile red? We will help you decide
This question matters more than you might think. Side by side, the two colours differ surprisingly and the wrong choice will bother you for decades.
Tile red (RAL 3009) is softer and more brown - it imitates the colour of fired clay tile. Restrained, blending in. RAL 3011 red, by contrast, is cleaner and deeper: less brown, more force. It does not shout, but clearly creates a different mood.
A simple rule: if in your village the building has to fit in with the existing roof colours, RAL 3009 tile red is the safe choice. But if your building stands alone - a farm, a vineyard estate, an industrial site - or you deliberately want something different, RAL 3011 gives a deeper, richer effect. The price is the same: both are 2,640 Ft/m². Do not mix the two reds on the same building - side by side the difference is distractingly obvious.
What is worth knowing about red
How much does it heat up in summer?
Red is a mid-dark colour. In summer, under a blazing sun, the surface heats to roughly 60-68 °C. Less than black or anthracite (which can climb to 80-90 °C), more than white. With normal roof insulation and ventilation this causes no trouble of any kind.
Does it fade over time?
We will tell it straight: among the metal-sheet colours, red is the most sensitive to the weather. After 10-15 years - mainly on the south side - fading can be visible to the eye. But importantly: the colour does not become ugly. It takes on a warmer, more natural tone. Many of our customers say the aged red sheet looks more attractive than the new one - as if it had always been on the house.
Which wall colour goes with a red roof?
Red roof + white wall: the classic
With a white façade, a red roof gives an elegant, clean overall look. It works for traditional and modern houses alike. Most of our customers choose this pairing - for good reason.
Red roof + brick façade: perfect harmony
If the house has brick walls, a RAL 3011 roof does not compete with them - it complements them. The warm red tones merge, and the building reads as coherent and composed.
Red roof + cream or beige wall: rural elegance
Next to off-white or beige render, a red roof creates a warm, homely feel. This pairing is especially striking in wine regions and on traditional country houses.
Red roof + green gate or fence
Red and green are a natural colour pair - and they work beautifully on buildings too, as long as you use them in moderation. Red roof, green gate, green fence - characterful and natural. Just do not cover everything in red and green.
Building regulations: is red allowed?
Good news: a red roof is accepted almost everywhere. Where the local building code requires a "traditional" or "tile-coloured" covering, RAL 3011 passes in most cases - though RAL 3009 tile red is even safer.
Where the dark or "modern" colours (black, anthracite, blue) are prohibited, a red roof is generally permitted. If you have to choose a traditional roof colour but tile red feels too predictable, RAL 3011 can be the most characterful colour within the permitted range.
Installation notes
Thermal expansion - moderate
In summer the red sheet heats to a maximum of 65-68 °C, which means moderate thermal expansion. On a 6-metre sheet expect around 4-5 mm of movement - handled easily with standard fixing.
Scratches
Scratches show up moderately on the red surface - more than on a dark sheet, less than on white. Soft-soled shoes and careful handling are recommended during installation.
Dirt
Red is a low-maintenance colour. Dust is not conspicuous on it (unlike white), and lime marks do not contrast as sharply as on black. A good compromise if you do not want to be cleaning all the time.
Accessories
Flashing, bargeboard, gutter and roofing screws are all available in RAL 3011. Order every accessory in RAL 3011 consistently - do not mix with RAL 3009.
How does the red corrugated sheet age?
Many people ask, so we will say it straight. The picture is not at all negative.
The colour is practically unchanged. The deep-red look is stable, the coating is intact and complete.
On the south side the red starts to soften slightly - shifting towards a warmer, more brown direction. This is not degradation but maturation. Many of our customers say the red sheet looks prettier after a few years because it becomes more natural.
The fading is visible to the naked eye, but the building's overall look stays coherent, because the change is uniform. If you need to replace a sheet, the new one may differ in colour - it is worth keeping a spare sheet in a similar place.
Red sheet does not fade ugly - it deepens and warms. Most owners actively like the aged red look, because the building takes on a more natural, material-like character. Like a brick house that has aged well.
