Wood-grain corrugated sheet: a timber look with zero maintenance

People often look at it with scepticism at first - then they see it on a building and fall for it straight away. The point is simple: you get the warm, homely look of natural wood, but on a metal sheet. It does not rot, does not crack, does not need annual painting or treatment, and thirty years from now it will look just as good.

This is the only premium colour in our range: 2,840 Ft/m², which is only 200 Ft/m² more than the other colours. In return you get a special, multi-layer printed wood-grain pattern that from a short distance is strikingly close to real timber. Among our customers, whoever has tried it once almost always chooses it again.

Wood-grain sheet is right for you if...

  • You like the warmth of wood but hate maintenance
  • You are planning a fence, gable or outbuilding where you want a natural, attractive effect
  • You already have timber elements (terrace, pergola, garden shed) and want matching cladding
  • You are building a guesthouse, wine cellar or holiday rental where the natural look attracts guests
  • You simply like the look of wood - but not its problems

Wood-grain sheet or real timber? The honest answer

Where the wood-grain sheet is better

No need to re-stain every 2-3 years - ever. Metal lasts 25-30+ years, untreated timber 10-15. Woodworm does not eat it, fungus does not grow on it, it does not catch fire and it does not warp. Practically care-free.

Where real timber is better

Up really close (from 30 cm), you can tell it is metal - the touch is smooth and the pattern repeats. It cannot replace the smell and natural texture of real wood. Where people touch the surface by hand, real timber is more authentic.

A simple rule of thumb: wherever you see the surface from a distance - roof, gable, fence, façade - the wood-grain sheet is a perfect choice. Where people actually touch it up close (entrance, handrail), real timber is better.

What to know on a larger surface

The wood-grain pattern repeats roughly every 1-2 metres. On a small surface - a gable, a fence panel, a short strip of façade - this is not noticeable at all. On a larger continuous surface (above 5 metres), though, it can become visible to the eye.

Pro tip: If you alternate the panels (one facing left, the next facing right), the repetition is far less noticeable. On a bigger surface it is worth combining it with single-colour elements - for example, a wood-grain façade framed with anthracite flashing, or a wood-grain gable next to a white wall. The overall look is more striking, too.

What can the wood-grain sheet do? The essentials, briefly

Coating

The build-up of the wood-grain sheet is more elaborate than that of the single-colour versions. It has three layers: base colour, printed wood-grain pattern, then a clear protective lacquer on top that protects the whole thing. This is a thicker and more resistant coating than on a plain coloured sheet.

Heat build-up in summer

The wood-grain sheet is mid-light, so it does not heat up as much as the dark colours. In summer the surface temperature typically sits between 55-63 °C - far more comfortable than an anthracite or chocolate-brown sheet.

How does it age?

After 10-15 years the contrast on the wood-grain surface slowly softens: the dark grain lines lighten, and the base can yellow slightly. The overall effect evokes a naturally aged timber surface - which many find particularly attractive rather than a drawback.

Rust protection

Just as strong as on any other coloured sheet in our range. No difference here.

Where does it look best?

Gable and façade accents - the ideal use

Our customers get the nicest results on gables. The triangular area is relatively small, the wood effect comes through fully, and the pattern repeat is not disturbing at all. We get lots of positive feedback on this use.

Fencing - by far the most popular

Wood-grain corrugated sheet is the best seller for fencing. At the 1.5-2 metre fence-panel size, the proportions are ideal: the wood effect comes through perfectly and the finish is even and coherent. It also blends nicely into the streetscape.

Roofing - possible, with a few tips

It is fine for roofing, too, but here it is worth picking shorter panels (under 4 metres) and combining them with single-colour ridge and barge flashings - anthracite or brown pair perfectly with it.

Which colours should you pair it with?

The wood-grain sheet looks best alongside neutral colours. A white (RAL 9010) façade with a wood-grain gable is the classic, proven recipe. Anthracite (RAL 7016) framing gives a modern feel. Off-white (RAL 9002) is the most harmonious partner. Chocolate brown (RAL 8017) flashing blends in almost invisibly. Better not to pair it with vivid colours.

Local building code: where does the wood-grain sheet stand?

Opinions on the wood-grain sheet vary by municipality, so it is worth checking ahead. In many places it is accepted as a "naturally effect" cladding; elsewhere it is classified by its base tone - typically brown or beige - which generally passes.

Good news: If you are building in a landscape-protected area, the wood-grain sheet is one of the solutions most likely to be accepted, because it imitates natural timber cladding. Several of our customers chose it for precisely this reason.

Installation tips for wood-grain sheet

Grain direction - watch this

The grain has to run vertically on a façade and down the slope on a roof. If you fit it the other way round, it is immediately obvious and spoils the whole look. Worth double-checking before installation.

Scratches - be careful

On a wood-grain surface a scratch also interrupts the printed pattern, and unfortunately touch-up paint cannot put that back perfectly. Work in soft-soled shoes, keep the protective film on as long as possible, and do not slide the sheets across each other.

Thermal expansion - not a concern

Being a mid-light colour, a 6-metre panel only moves about 4-4.5 mm. The usual fixing rules apply, nothing special is needed.

If damage occurs - what can you do?

Small scratches can be treated with plain brown touch-up paint - but the pattern cannot be redrawn. Larger damage means panel replacement. Our tip: order a few spare panels so you do not have to chase after them later.
