The green corrugated sheet - when the building belongs to the landscape

RAL 6005 is a deep, dark moss green. Not a shrill grass green, not a trendy mint - but the serious, mature green you see in pine forests and evergreen hedges. A calm, natural colour that blends into a green setting as if the building had always stood there.

The green corrugated sheet is truly in its element where nature is the neighbour. At the forest edge, on a hillside plot, in a green garden, on a farm. Where the building is not supposed to stand out but to merge in. Many people choose it for exactly this reason - they do not want to clash with the landscape. And at that task, deep green is unbeatable.

Who do we usually recommend it to?

  • You are building on a forest-edge, hill or country plot where the building has to fit into the landscape
  • The plot is in a landscape- or nature-protected area - here a green roof is often an outright requirement
  • You are putting up a farm building - stable, barn, machinery shed, store - where a green roof is a natural part of the rural picture
  • You are planning a hunting lodge, forest guesthouse or wine cellar, where a natural mood is essential
  • You live in a wooded, garden setting and want a roof colour that is harmonious when viewed from the garden too

A European classic too - not by chance

In England, the green profiled sheet is the signature of rural farm buildings. Green barns and stables are as natural on the British countryside as stone walls and hedges. To the English, a green building does not compete with the landscape - it respects it.

In the United States, dark green is specifically recommended for forest and mountain homes. It is not seen as a trendy colour but as a timeless classic. In Scandinavia, deep green is one of the base colours of traditional timber houses - and has been for centuries.

In Hungary, green corrugated sheet is a steady choice, especially for farm buildings, fences and country houses. It is particularly strong around national parks and landscape-protected areas, where the building regulations often specifically prescribe a green roof covering.

What is worth knowing about green

Heat build-up in the sun - moderate

RAL 6005 absorbs roughly 55-65% of the solar radiation. In a heatwave the surface heats to 58-67 °C - about the same as blue or red. With proper roof insulation this causes no problem at all.

Fading - in a favourable position

Green is more stable against UV than red or blue. Over 15-20 years the deep green tone may shift slightly towards a more yellow, olive direction. But the change is gradual and reads as natural.

An important advantage: Fading on a green sheet is almost invisible in nature. The surrounding vegetation also changes with the seasons, and the slightly olive-tinted roof simply blends into that. In summer it looks lighter among leafy canopies; in autumn, darker next to the yellowing leaves. No other colour can offer this advantage.

Which wall colour does it look best with?

Green roof + natural timber façade

The most natural partner for RAL 6005 is raw or stained timber. Log house, timber cladding, timber gable - next to any of them the deep-green roof looks as if the house had been carved out of the forest. In the Mátra, Bükk, Bakony and Mecsek regions this is the most authentic pairing.

Green roof + white wall

Deep green roof with a white façade is the modernised version of the traditional country house. The contrast is decisive but not aggressive - the depth of the green and the crispness of the white balance each other nicely. Especially attractive on symmetrical pitched-roof houses.

Green roof + off-white wall

If snow white is too sharp, an off-white façade with a green roof is one of the most harmonious combinations. Both colours draw from nature; the overall effect is warm and friendly. Guesthouses, wineries and rural lodgings - our customers love this pairing most.

Green roof + chocolate brown wall

Deep green and chocolate brown is nature's own colour pair - canopy and tree trunk. For forest-edge buildings, hunting lodges and landscape-protected areas this is one of the most popular pairings. Green roof with brown façade, or vice versa - both directions work splendidly.

Building regulations - green is in a privileged position

Where the local building code requires a roof colour that fits the landscape, green is almost always accepted. Near certain national parks - Bükk, Aggtelek, the Balaton Uplands - a green roof is often the only permitted colour alongside tile red and brown.

Where the modern colours - anthracite, black, blue - are prohibited, green is typically permitted. This is a real advantage if you want a dark, characterful roof colour but the regulations narrow the options. RAL 6005 is just as decisive and deep as anthracite - but in the eyes of the authorities it is a "traditional, fitting" colour.

Tip: It is still worth checking with the local chief architect before ordering - but green roof covering is very rarely refused.

What is worth knowing about installation

Thermal expansion - moderate

The green sheet heats to 58-67 °C in summer, meaning moderate expansion. On a 6-metre panel expect around 4.5-5 mm of movement. Handled by standard fixing; oval holes are recommended above 6 metres.

Maintenance - the most rewarding colour

Dust blends into the dark base. Green algae - which stand out immediately on a light surface - are virtually invisible on the green sheet. Leaves and pollen do not create sharp contrast either. According to our customers, green is the lowest-fuss colour.

Dirt

Bird droppings and lime marks show up moderately on the dark-green base - less than on black, more than on brown. A wash once a year is plenty to keep it looking good.

Accessories

RAL 6005 is a base colour in gutter and flashing manufacture - widely available from stock. Green roofing screws can also be ordered, with which fixing points almost disappear on the green surface.

How does the green corrugated sheet age?

Green is one of the most beautifully ageing colours - especially in a natural setting.

0-10 years

The colour stays practically unchanged: deep, saturated moss green. Coating intact, the building looks fresh. In this period most of our customers notice no change at all.

10-15 years

The colour may shift slightly to a warmer direction - from clean green gradually towards a more olive shade. In a natural setting this is almost invisible, because the surrounding green vegetation itself changes constantly.

15-20 years

The fading is measurable, but the green character remains. While the fading of a red or blue sheet gives a "worn" impression, a softened green feels more patinated - as if the sheet itself had grown moss. Many of our customers say a 10-15-year-old green sheet looks better than a brand-new one.

Green is the colour that grows more beautiful with time. In a natural setting its ageing is not degradation but integration - the building gradually becomes part of the landscape.
